Imagine waking up to the sound of a sea breeze moving through coconut palms right outside your room… practicing yoga at sunrise on our open jungle yoga shala deck… hearing nothing but the sounds of local wildlife and singing birds and catching your first waves on the perfect tropical bay of Hiriketiya. Here at The Salty Pelican is a place to be happy... A place to feel like your own... a place to feel like home... it’s an entire experience consisting of everything we love: surf, yoga, sun, sea, salt, adventures, great people and good vibes. So kick-up your feet at our poolside cafe... grab a cold sangria and really enjoy this amazing place. Life is just that easy at The Salty Pelican.... Experience revitalising & dynamic yoga sequences in the morning followed by afternoon meditation sessions and gentle afternoon classes of restorative Yin yoga.. A team of certified instructors who follow a very unique approach in teaching will make sure that you learn the proper techniques, ride the waves and have loads of fun whilst perfecting it. We try to balance a lively atmosphere at The Salty Pelican with comfort and a good night's sleep....
Itinerary
Below is an example of your day. After breakfast, you have the option to head out to the beach for our morning surf lesson. Our surf school is run by a team of certified instructors who follow a very unique approach in teaching. They will make sure that you learn the proper surf techniques and have loads of fun whilst participating in each lesson. The unique geography of our location means we not only have rideable waves almost every day of the year but that we can almost always find a wave to suit everyone.

Our Package offers an excellent detailed introduction to Hatha & Yin yoga for beginners and the chance to dive deep into more advanced practice. Yoga is for everyone, so you don't need to have any prior experience and we welcome complete beginners. We have a diverse daily program for both yoga and meditation, with multiple styles of classes including Hatha and Yin spread throughout the day for you to pick and choose the best time slots during your stay with us. This gives our guests plenty of flexibility when planning their days with their alternative activities like surfing and exploring the local areas. Practicing Hatha & Yin yoga will help to harmonise the nervous system, increase your sense of balance with the body & mind and strengthen your lymphatic system. To ensure our guests have ample time for rest and rejuvenation, we have deliberately chosen not to schedule any yoga classes on Mondays or on Thursday afternoons. We believe in the importance of allowing for a dedicated day of relaxation, enabling you to unwind and recharge. This intentional break also provides an opportunity for guests to explore the island or partake in our half day elephant safari tour, all without missing out on any scheduled classes during their stay with us. You can join your first afternoon yin yoga class on your arrival day (Excl. Mon & Thurs), typically scheduled between 15:00-17:00. Please note: Any unused yoga classes are non-refundable.

If your arrival day falls on a Sunday, your first yoga class is scheduled on that afternoon between the starting time between 15:00-17:00 usually. If you miss this class, your first yoga class will commence on Tuesday morning, as there is no yoga classes scheduled all day on Monday.

Accommodation is with comfy beds in a spacious room. You can choose either Premium shared room (8-beds), Female Only Premium shared room (8-beds), or Superior ensuite double room**. All rooms have en-suite bathroom, private terrace/balcony, and dedicated hanging space.

Colombo International Airport Transfers
We can organise private airport transfers (to be paid locally) that takes about 3 hours to reach The Salty Pelican. When you choose to arrive by bus to Hiriketiya, you can catch a bus from Katunayake bus stop (airport) to Colombo Fort station. From here, Super Luxury (Express) Coach are about triple the price of a normal local bus but are air-conditioned and will allow your large suitcase on. It is also the only bus allowed on the Expressways. Book COLOMBO - KATARAGAMA bus route and disembark at DIKWELLA stop.

Daily breakfast is included, and each day we try and get all our guests together to socialise over a good meal and some delicious cocktails or mocktails from our onsite restaurant - The Backyard, which offers a modern and lively poolside dining experience characterised by bold flavours, colourful presentations and a welcoming ambiance. With a focus on shared plates and communal dining, you’re going to love every moment here at The Salty Pelican. Join us for a variety of group dinners during the week, from the Tropical Temptations 3-course on Mondays to the Ayurvedic BBQ on Wednesdays, to the Ayurvedic Curry & Rice on Fridays, to the Seafood & Veggie BBQ on Sundays, all created to promote community and guest connections.

- National Park Safari Tours
Leopards, elephants, birdlife in abundance - Sri Lanka is a wildlife lover's paradise and is one of the best places in Asia for seeing wildlife. Both Yala and Udawalawe have stunning landscapes, so whichever park you decide to visit for your safari, you will find the landscapes very enjoyable and unique. Udawalawe is in our opinion the best safari in Sri Lanka because it provides a truly gratifying experience. You can get very close to animals, particularly the elephants, and you're never really bothered by other jeeps and tourists. Whilst your chances of spotting leopards at Udawalawe are less likely than at Yala, there is nonetheless a healthy leopard population in Udawalawe that sightings do happen. You're also almost guaranteed to spot Sri Lankan elephants as well as red spotted deers, wild water buffalo, sloth bears, crocodiles, monkeys and many different species of birds. Best mornings to join this tours is on both on Monday and Friday mornings, as we have no yoga or meditation scheduled on those mornings. Other mornings can also be pre booked where possible. This activity is an optional extra and not included in the package price but you should definitely make time to to visit one.
- Seafood & Vegetarian BBQ Dinner**
Every Wednesday & Sunday evening, The Salty Pelican crew cooks up a yummy Seafood BBQ including delicious grilled vegetarian options also. We love to bring everyone of our guests together to eat, drink, socialise and make new lifetime friends. The BBQ is served at our communal dining table usually and includes all the sides and refeshing cold drinks.
- Curry & Rice & All Things Nice Dinner**
Every Monday & Friday evening, we gather our guests together around our beautiful communal dining table to taste a variety of different local curries... including vegetarian, seafood or chicken. The delicious food variety is complemented with refreshing cold drinks.
